Hoping to emerg Monday morning as Jayhawk League leaders, instead the Wellington Heat have distanced themselves considerably from the league leader Hays Larks who dominated over the weekend in a 3 game series played out at Hibbs-Hooten field. Nearly knotted at the top of the heap prior to action on Friday, the Larks took off over the 3 game series and now at 9-1 have built a considerable cushion over the local boys who sit @ 5-5.
It's tight at the top of the Jayhawk League Baseball standings (thru 6-12-13) and the two teams making it tight square off against each other this weekend at Hibbs Hooten Field. The WELLINGTON HEAT (5-2 in league) play host to the HAYS LARKS ((5-1 in league) this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the usual start times each night @ 7:05PM. The HEAT are coming off an important win Wednesday at EL DORADO - taking the BRONCOS to the 14th inning and pulling out a 3-2 win!
It was a dual Wednesday evening at Hibbs Hooten Field between Wellington's "2" 16-18 yo baseball squads - Legion Post #90 and Wgtn Sr. Babe Ruth. In Game #1, the latter never got all 8 cylinders to fire and the former took advantage of defensive errors and solid hitting. In the end, and after only 5 innings, it was LEGION 10 SR. BABE RUTH 01. Going the distance for the victors was Trevor Nance who ended the game in run-rule status after a 2 run walk-off home run to seal the deal.

Babe Ruth action continues as summer (temperature wise) has arrived. At Sellers on Tuesday evening, it was the Wellington Rotary vs the Wellington Kiwanis. Home plate got quite the workout, being stepped on or slid into 25 times before the teams were shaking hands. A lopsided affair in the beginning, Rotary lead Kiwanis 13-2 after 2 1/2 innings of play. In the bottom of the 3rd, Kiwanis bats woke up and reduced that 11 point deficit to 3 - after 3 innings of play Rotary 13 Kiwanis 10.

WHS 2012 Graduate, Ryan Jenkins, son of Clyde and Amy Jenkins looked proud as a peacock Monday evening down at Sellers as the new semi-pro baseball team WELLINGTON HEAT hosted the OWASSO ANGELS in non-league action. (Winning 3-0 by the way!) Jenkins performed well in his first "semi-pro" outing, fanning 1 batter, allowing 2 Hits but ZERO Runs in his 2 innings of duty.
